Sugarcane Biofuel

May 18, 2015

Brazil’s tropical climate provides an optimal environment for various plants and crops to flourish. A crop of particular focus is sugarcane, which can be manipulated to use as an effective biofuel, known as sugarcane ethanol. In high production, sugarcane ethanol has already replaced almost forty percent of Brazil’s gasoline needs, but utilizes only one-third of the available energy sugarcane has to offer. The leftover material can be harvested as cellulosic ethanol but is often gone to waste because of the expensive processes needed to harvest it. BEEG aims to further research cellulosic ethanol in hopes of making it a viable and affordable source of fuel for both the Brazilian and the worldwide market.

More on the benefits of sugarcane ethanol, its revolutionary impact on Brazilian fuel, and the efficiency of cellulosic ethanol can be found here.
